Advisor, from advi´|ce n. opinion given as to future action (i.e. my advice to you is;), information, news.
advi´|se (-z) v.t. & i., give advice (to), recommend, inform, consult with.
Okay, there is my job description, direct from the pocket Oxford dictionary!
As your peer advisor, I am available to talk with you and answer questions, concerns or queries from your academic life within CCFI and at UBC. I am available to listen and talk through things that arise for you as a graduate student, as a researcher, or as a new resident of Vancouver. If you are looking for information that I don’t have the answer to, I hope to point you towards it.
The people who come to study here make CCFI the special place that it is. As Annie Smith, the peer advisor before me wrote, “As a GAA I have the responsibility to be a leader in modeling compassion and caring and interest in all of our academic endeavours across the faculty”. Following in Annie’s footsteps, I look forward as peer advisor to contributing to the spirit of this diverse, rich and unique Centre within the Faculty of Education - and working among such amazingly talented students.

Rebecca Thomas GSFE Representative
Hi, my role is to help CCFI and ECED students have a voice within
the broader Education Faculty. I sit on a committee composed of
reps from each department with the Education Faculty, called the
Graducate Students of the Faculty of Education (GSFE).
Do you have concerns regarding issues of access or equity at UBC
(like funding or tuition)? I am here to advocate on your behalf
within the Education Faculty. I am responsible for bringing these
issues to the attention of the Dean of Education and associated
governance committees.
Do you have concerns, issues, or events that you would like to
see communicated to students and faculty across the Faculty of Education? Feel free to email me with your ideas anytime.
The main goal of my position is
to make sure that everyone at CCFI and ECED feels they receive fair and equitable
treatment within the Faculty of Education and to represent CCFI within the wider Education community.
Are you still wondering what the GSFE is? check out the website
