LISA
NICHOLSON
MEd
Student
I
began my MEd Graduate program through CCFI in September
of 2004. The specific reason for pursuing a MEd is based
on my desire to teach Early Childhood Education to future
child care educators. My area of research interest is in
the role of Mentorship for Early Childhood Educators. Through
this research, I hope to play a role in assisting a new
generation of students to excel at, and be inspired by,
their chosen career. My goal of becoming part of the teaching
community comes from a passion to create an ever greater
level of professionalism for myself, the students, and ultimately
the industry itself.

I have
worked in the non-profit child care sector since 1987, after
graduating from the Early Childhood Education (ECE) and ECE
Special Needs program at Capilano College, and presently have
a current license to practice as an Early Childhood Educator
and Special Needs Educator. Over the past few years, I also
obtained my BA in Child and Youth Care from the University
of Victoria.
I
am very pleased to be a part of the CCFI community, and have
thoroughly enjoyed the courses I have been a part of so far.
The open invitation to explore and challenge my knowing within
an amazing group of colleagues and professors has been an
incredible experience, and has already significantly increased
my knowledge and understanding of my chosen career path. By
going through a process of challenging my assumptions, creating
alternative models, and exploring innovative approaches to
child care delivery, I hope to contribute to the experiences
of children in their critical formative years, as well as
to the CCFI community, in whatever way I can.
Outside
of studies, I am looking forward to the arrival of my first
child at the end of March. I have strong interests in mountain
biking, spiritual development, and reading about a diverse
range of subjects. I have most recently discovered my voice
in writing poetry, and am striving to develop that voice.
